Testing out the Viltrox EF-FX1

X-H1 + EF-S 10-22mm I recently picked up a used Viltrox EF-FX1 on the Amazon marketplace after going back and forth with the pros and cons of it compared to the EF-FX2 and of course the Fringer adapters... I found it hard to bite the bullet for the Fringer even though I'm sure it's objectively better, it might have something to do with the fact that I didn't own any Canon mount AF glass. I mainly wanted an adapter to mooch from my friends and family when we're out shooting together... and I've flirted with the idea of getting an EF-S mount UWA zoom since that's not typically my style to shoot with, thus, it's hard to stomach the $700 or so cost of a used XF 10-24mm for what I currently shoot. So now you can hopefully understand why to me, spending more than $150 for something like this, is close to out of the question. If you intend to use Canon glass as a large part of your kit, you should probably get the Fringer. The adapter is surprisi

We're halfway through 2017, why am I writing a review/post about a mediocre rated lens that came out in 2012? Because it's not mediocre, it's fantastic. Like most Fuji shooters I didn't give much thought to the XF 18mm when I first got into Fuji. Most of the mainstream reviews had luke-warm to downright bad opinions about it, some even calling it Fuji's worst lens. Thankfully I listened to a few of the quieter voices out there and gave the 18mm a shot because I loved the 28mm FL on my 6D and a7S and I wanted something similar in size to the XF 27mm that I already had, but with an aperture ring... the extra stop of light was an added bonus. So what is it about this lens that makes it rank in my top 2 favorite lenses for my kit? Well, let's break it down... It shares the same hood and caps as my other favorite Fuji lens; the 35mm f1.4. These two lenses weigh virtually nothing, are solidly built, have aperture rings, fast aperture, fit in a pocket wi

My journey from full frame Canon, to Fuji, to full frame Sony and back to Fuji again

I started off photography about 8 or 9 years ago with a 20D my dad handed down to me after he bought a 5D2 for his business. I imagine he was in some way hoping his interest in photography would manifest in someone down the line, as none of my siblings before me seemed to take much interest in it (though my little sister has recently started shooting as well). I enjoyed it, but I never really cared about photography while I owned my 20D, too distracted by other hobbies and being in my late teens/early 20's at the time. It wasn't until my 20D was stolen that I began to realize that I had a genuine interest in photography... we don't know what we've got 'till it's gone... they paved paradise and put up a parking... sorry, I'll try to keep this on track.... A shot from my stolen 20D from Munich Germany (one of those distractions I talked about) I longed to have that camera back, so I bought myself a Canon T2i (550D) to replace it.  I loved my
